Colonnade Pizza – Pizza

Review:

The crust was thinner than I expected and had a nice amount of crisp. The toppings (mostly meat) were all kept small so that they would fit under the cheese. I’m sure they were of good quality, but they were difficult to distinguish from each other. The sauce was pretty standard “Ottawa-Pizza” style sauce. There was a lot of cheese. It not only covered the toppings, but it also ran all the way to the edge of the crust. The biggest issue I had with the pizza was that while it crisped up nicely, the cheese lacked any other flavour than a slightly bitter oiliness that overpowered everything else.

Five Guys – Poutine

Review:

The poutine featured real, standard-cut, skin-on fries. They were cooked perfectly crispy. There was a good amount of cheese curds. The gravy seemed to have a beef base but it also had a little bit of that “bbq gravy” flavour. This was a case were each element was actually better than the sum of its parts. Even though the poutine was good, I would probably recommend people just get the fries (preferably cajun) over it, unless they were actually craving poutine.

Five Guys – Burger

Review:

The burger had 2 thin hand formed patties cooked on the flat-top. The outside had crispy bits, but they were actually soft and retained a lot of moisture. They were covered with a generous amount of processed cheddar. The bun was very soft, but held up to the rest of the burger. I also liked that grilled onions were not an up-charge. The biggest strength of this burger was that it had the best meat to cheese to bread ratio. I know Five Guys is a chain restaurant, but this burger was undeniably top-tier for me.

Cafe Chez Tache – Pizza

Review:

The most interesting part of this pizza by far was crust which was nice and soft, but the edge was covered with sesame seeds which added some crunch and a bit of a nutty flavour. The pepperoni was that sandwich meat type, of which I’m not a big fan, and it was under the cheese. The sausage did have real sausage texture. There was a good amount of cheese that really browned well. The sauce was not bad, but I found it a little bland. This will sound strange, but it lacked the brightness you expect from tomato.

Bite Burger House – Burger

Review:

The 8-ish ounce patty had a prevalent charcoal flavour. It was cooked well-done, but remained very moist. It was topped with a generous amount of cheddar cheese. The bun was really nice. It held up really well to the toppings. I tend to praise iceberg lettuce, but I believe this had butter lettuce, which was also very nice.
