Zups – Poutine

Review:

The fries were dredged in gluten-free flour which gave them a good crispiness. There was a generous amount of cheese curds. It had a very interesting gravy. It almost tasted like there was some sweet element added to it. Pro Tip: They also had a version with smoked curds. Unless you’re really in the mood to try it, I’d recommend sticking with regular curds. It was just too much smoke for me. **Note: I visited the ByWard location, which has since been closed, but there is still a location in Wakefield.

Bash’s Gourmet Food Truck – Burger

Review:

This was not actually the burger I ordered, but I won’t hold it against them. The patty was pretty thin. It was a little crispy. The cheese was nice. The veggies were fine as was the bread. The standout items were the onion rings on the burger. They remained very crispy. This burger desperately needed more meat (a second patty or at least a thicker one would have done a lot for the burger).

Monza Pizza – Pizza

Review:

This pizza had a very thin crust, charred in a wood-fired oven. I liked it a lot. The cheese was clearly of high quality. There was a good amount of toppings for the thickness of the pizza. The pepperoni was quite good and the sausage was good as well. It felt like the top of the pizza could have used a little more heat but that was the only real weakness).

Le 138 – Poutine

Review:

This poutine had thin-ish fresh-cut fries. The gravy was really tasty and the poutine was topped with a good amount of cheese curds. I don’t like a soupy poutine, but this one needed a little more gravy layering. The top third had all the toppings and the bottom was all fries. If it was layered, this would get a very high score (gravy is so important, and this one was really good). Even without that benefit, it still deserved a good score.

Le 138 – Burger

Review:

This burger had a 4oz patty cooked well-done. It was just a little dry. It didn’t seem to be seasoned much, if at all. I liked the amount of veggies on there (one thin slice of tomato is perfect). I clumsily added the mayo myself, so please ignore the excess. The cheese and bacon were nice additions, but didn’t stand out. Toasting the sesame bun helped the burger a lot.
