Merivale Bowling Centre – Pizza

Review:

I didn’t plan this review at all, but why not? The pizza arrived looking thick and heavy, but it was deceptively light. No ingredients stood out as particularly great, but nothing was bad either. It tasted like best frozen pizza ever, to be honest, and I didn’t mind at all. This was surprisingly easy to eat.

Maison du Burger – Burger

Review:

The 4oz patty was heavily seasoned and had meatloaf-like texture that suggested it featured some binder. I was not a big fan of the seasoning, which tasted more like an Italian meatball than a burger. All other ingredients (bun, thin bacon and processed cheddar) were acceptable, but far from premium. The lettuce was iceberg, which always gets a bonus from me. This burger also came with an onion ring, which was the highlight for me, along with the aioli which was the only sauce.

Fiazza Fresh Fired – Pizza

Review:

I’d eaten from here before and I always thought it was decent, but this was the best pizza I ever had from this place. The crust was light, crispy and just a little charred. The sauce was pleasantly herbaceous. There was plenty of cheese and the sausage was of really high quality, though I wish it was cut into smaller chunks.

Chelsea Pub – Burger

Review:

I have to first apologize for the picture. I was at a work function and I was rushing. It was actually a picturesque burger. The patty was ½ lb. It was slightly overcooked. The cheese was of good quality and there was a good amount of bacon. Vegetables were fresh and I really liked the pickles. The special sauce was good, but there wasn’t nearly enough of it. The black and white sesame seed bun looked great, but it was a little too dense. This combined with the lack of sauce and the doneness of the patty made for a dry burger, overall. It wasn’t a problem of quality ingredients, but rather execution.

Capitol Burger – Burger

Review:

The burger came with two thin patties cooked on the flat top. The meat was very soft and cooked perfectly. There was a generous amount of cheese. I normally like a toasted bun, but this one was very fresh, and held up well without needing to be toasted. It had a little too much tomato (easy to fix). I had this one with grilled onions. The secret sauce was delicious. Overall, this was very good.

Capitol Burger – Poutine

Review:

The website and others suggested that this place featured fresh-cut fries that are apparently pretty good, but the 3 times I went, I ended up getting frozen crinkle-cut fries, so that’s all I can rate. The fries were ok, but were actually hurt textually by the gravy. The gravy was thin and a little bland. It was also a little light on curds.

Burgers n’ Fries Forever – Burger

Review:

The 1/4lb patty was more smashed than typical BFF burgers, which made it crispier. If they could increase their patty size by an ounce or two, this burger would improve its ranking a lot. The cheese seemed to be of high quality. They offered thinly-cut tomatoes, which is always appreciated. Their BFF Sauce was pretty much “Thousand Island Dressing” which I liked a lot. The bun was good, but pretty greasy.
